Democracy

Council needs to make a greater effort to work with and involve the people of Wodonga.

It is not enough to simply announce when a decision has been made. Council must seek the input of Wodonga residents at all stages of the decision making process.

We are committed too:

Involving the public in the decision making process. When a decision has to be made, the people who the decision will affect must be involved.

Expanding question time, so that residents can ask questions of councillors at a council meetings, without having to give written notice.

Broadcasting council meetings online, so that all residents can scrutinise council.

Implementing a web petitions system, so that it is easier for residents to prepare and submit petitions to council.

Proper consideration for all petitions.

Declaring all donations received by councillors on councils website.

Social Justice

The health and well being of all residents is as crucial as ensuring environmental sustainability.

Council must prioritize community well being alongside the environment to make Wodonga a safe and healthy place to live.

We are committed too:

Supporting small business for a stronger community.

Promoting affordable accomodation; all people have a right to quality housing.

More opportunities and activities for young people, and greater efforts to involve young people in community life.

Active council support for the work of community social service organisations.

Affordable access to childcare, aged care and family services.

Safe footpaths, cycle paths and roads.

Understanding solutions for homelessness and drugs.

Environment

State and federal governments have failed to take adequate actions to address climate change. It is time for councils to lead.

We must actively offset the impacts of climate change, especially on our water supply, whilst minimising our negative environmental impacts.

We are committed to:

Council support for grey water recycling, solar hot water systems, solar panels and rain water tanks.

Promoting maximum water and energy efficiency in new developments.

Supporting the retrofitting of existing buildings to maximise water and energy efficiency.

Saving and maintaining existing parks, ensuring everyone has access to public green space.

Planning to promote cycling and pedestrian access.

Improving existing cycle and foot paths.

Promoting better integrated public transport.

Promoting the planting of native rather than introduced plant species.
